Hastings Arts and Culture Commission Reviews Grant Process, Public Art Updates

The Hastings Arts and Culture Commission met Wednesday evening at City Hall, focusing on future grant funding, public art, and ongoing community projects.

Commissioners discussed plans to audit the Arts and Culture Grant Program review process, exploring criteria that could be used to create a formal scoring rubric for next year’s grant cycle.

The commission also conducted a work plan check-in, providing staff with guidance on upcoming priorities and identifying several policy-related goals for future projects.

Another topic of discussion was the plaque accompanying the Spiral Bridge painting. Arts and Culture Commission Chair Hollenbeck provided background on a request to update the plaque’s historical information. Commissioners discussed best practices for making the change, and city staff will oversee the remainder of the project.

During reports, Commissioner Read shared an update from the June meeting of the Highway 61 Visual Quality Committee, describing it as a positive meeting with several promising developments.

The commission also received a budget update from staff and approved both the meeting agenda and the minutes from its May meeting.
