The Hastings boys basketball team got off to a slow start and never recovered as they fell to Apple Valley in the AAAA Section 3 quarterfinal rounds Tuesday evening 89-63 as heard live on KDWA.
The Raiders were on the wrong end of a 16-2 run to start the game putting them behind from the get go, but would not go away easily. Hastings answered with a run themselves to get the deficit back within four points multiple times in the first half, but a late first half rally by the Eagles saw them hit multiple deep shots to put Hastings behind 44-27 at the half.
Hastings played the Eagles mainly even for much of the second half, but the multiple injuries plaguing the Raiders rotation eventually caught up with them as the Eagles answered every run from the Raiders and pulled away to the final tally.
Head coach Chad Feikema said he is proud of the fight his team showed despite a lot of injury adversity this season.
Matt Foss scored 27 points in his final game as a Raider to lead the team, and Hastings will say goodbye to a senior class of six.
