The Hastings boys hockey team survived a late game-tying goal from Two Rivers in their last home game of the season Tuesday, taking down the Warriors 3-2 as heard live on KDWA. The Raiders celebrated senior night before the contest, but would fall behind after an early power play opportunity for Two Rivers to lead 1-0 after the first period. The game completely swung in the second period however, with Rylan Krauth burying a penalty shot after being fouled on a breakaway, then Carter Hansen cleaned up a shot in front of the net as Hastings would take a 2-1 lead going into the third. Two Rivers survived a goaltender injury as they put on relentless pressure in the third to try and tie the score, and the Raiders nearly got by unscathed but a goal with just over three minutes remaining would tie it a 2-22. It took not even two minutes for the Raiders to respond, with defenseman Jack Woodwick earning his first goal to put Hastings back out in front 3-2 and they would hold on to the very end. The Raiders are now 12-11-1 overall and end the conference season at 6-4, and will wrap up the regular season Friday at Rochester Mayo.
Kate Nowak and James McNamara competed for Hastings High School at the Alpine Skiing state meet at Giants Ridge Ski Resort in Biwabik on Tuesday. Nowak earned a 1:19.54 two-run total, with a 37.77 on her first run and a 41.77 on the second. McNamara had a 38.05 on his first run, but was unable to finish the second run.
