Hastings City Council Member Angie Irene Haus has announced she’s seeking re-election to one of the city’s two at-
large council seats.
According to a campaign press release, Haus filed for re-election on June 1. She was first elected to the council in 2022.
Haus says when she first ran for office, she pledged to be a voice for strong government performance and accountability. While she says progress has been made over the past several years, she believes more work remains.
If re-elected, Haus says her top priorities will include maintaining safe and clean drinking water, investing in infrastructure and community development, and supporting economic vitality in Hastings.
Haus points to several accomplishments from her first term, including the adoption of measurable city goals and performance metrics. She says residents can review the city’s strategic plan to see progress made on those priorities.
She also highlighted the city’s work with the state on the planned Highway 61 reconstruction project between Fourth Street and 36th Street. The project, currently in the preliminary engineering phase, is expected to bring between 30 and 40 million dollars in improvements, including safer intersections, upgraded drainage systems, new sidewalks, pedestrian ramps, and utility upgrades.
Haus says she worked alongside fellow council members and city staff to support extensive public engagement efforts on the project, including open houses, online surveys, door-to-door outreach, and stakeholder meetings.
Additional accomplishments cited by Haus include support for downtown redevelopment projects, maintaining responsible city finances that have earned clean audits, and improvements to parks and trails throughout Hastings, including work at Lake Rebecca and Lake Isabel.
In a statement, Haus said local government remains a place where communities can take common-sense, non-partisan action together. She says she hopes voters will continue to support both the city’s work and her contribution to that effort.
