In a human-interest story, KDWA highlights two sisters from Hastings who are participants in this year’s Miss
Amazing pageant.
The Miss Amazing pageant takes place March 28th at Hopkins High School. The mission of Miss Amazing is to “provide opportunities for girls and women with disabilities to build self-esteem.”
To learn more about Miss Amazing, KDWA connected with Emily Dilly, Miss Amazing State Director, who offers an overview of the pageant.
Closely connected to the special needs community, director Emily Dilly’s younger brother has Down syndrome and autism. Dilly learned about the Miss Amazing pageant in college, where she pursued a degree in special education. When a college professor asked if she would be interested in serving on the Miss Amazing committee, Dilly said yes. For eight years, Dilly has coordinated Miss Amazing pageants in South Dakota and now in Minnesota. Things have changed over eight years; no longer a single college student, Dilly’s husband and three-year-old daughter now help her behind the scenes.
Dilly shares a story of how the Miss Amazing pageant instills confidence in the lives of the participants.
There will be two sisters from Hastings participating in the Miss Amazing pageant. This will be Serenity and Kaylee’s first time attending Miss Amazing. Serenity and Kaylee wanted to attend in 2020, but COVID threw a wrench into their plans. After a five-year hiatus, Miss Amazing is back in Minnesota.
Jackie Trevis, mother of Serenity and Kaylee, tells what skills Serenity and Kaylee will be doing for their Miss Amazing performance.
Jackie Trevis offers a thank you to Miss Amazing, and to the public, a message of inclusion.
If you are interested in participating or volunteering, State Director Dilly shares the application deadline for the Miss Amazing pageant –February 28th.
