The public will have a chance to go behind the scenes at one of the Mississippi River’s key navigation facilities later
this month.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ St. Paul District is hosting a free open house at Lock and Dam 2 in Hastings on Saturday, July 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Visitors can tour areas that are normally closed to the public, meet the employees who operate and maintain the lock and dam, and learn how the nearly century-old facility helps keep traffic moving on the Mississippi River.
Built in 1930, Lock and Dam 2 is located at 1350 Lock and Dam Road in Hastings.
The event is free and open to the public.
