In the December 17th Hastings School Board meeting were the student representative reports. Avery Durfee is the
representative for McAuliffe and Pinecrest elementary schools. Durfee highlighted the 10 Days of Giving, which was a healthy competition between the elementary schools—McAuliffe, Pinecrest, and Kennedy. Students brought in canned and boxed food to donate to Hastings Family Service. The reason? To ensure no person in Hastings goes hungry.
Durfee announced the winning school, saying that “Pinecrest absolutely crushed it.” The students of Pinecrest donated 2925 lbs. of food, for which they earned themselves a Culver’s party.
On December 18th KDWA was at Pinecrest Elementary School as students and staff got to celebrate. The staff had Culver’s for lunch, and every student got to have a Culver’s custard. It was a tough choice between vanilla and chocolate and a choice of topping, but the students were happy, and there were smiles all around.
Mr. Bakker, Pinecrest Elementary Principal, shared with KDWA about the 10 Days of Giving, the donation tally, and a huge thank you to community sponsors.
