Icy River 911

On Friday, January 29th at 4 in the afternoon, the Washington County Sheriffs Office Dispatch received a 911 call for a person possibly in the Saint Croix river near 9477 St. Croix Trail North. This location is known as the Boomsite. Dispatch activated the Washington County Sheriffs Office area Deputies, the Washington County Sheriffs Office Water/Parks and Trails unit, Stillwater Fire Department and Lakeview EMS. All responding units worked together with the assistance of the caller and it was determined that it was a log floating in the water. With rivers and lakes within the county, water rescues are likely any time of the year. Emergency teams practice cold water rescues and have equipment ready to answer such calls, when every minute can count. Call 911 if you suspect a water emergency has occurred, stay on the line, give detailed locations and landmark directions as best you can until help arrives. It is not recommended that you make a rescue attempt, in most cases that only adds to the number of those needing help.
