On December 3rd at 5:30pm, there will be a special meeting of the Hastings School Board. On the agenda will be to certify the 2025 school board special election. In November, Elaine Mikel-Mulder was elected to the school board. Mikel-Mulder has been serving on the school board since May, and her new term will go into effect in January 2026.
Another item on the December 3rd agenda will be an in-depth look at the School Perceptions Survey. Daren Sievers, School Perceptions project manager, will guide administrators through the survey results during the December 3rd meeting. Sievers attended the November 19th meeting and initially unveiled the School Perception Survey results.
KDWA connected with Daren Sievers for a comment prior to the December 3rd school board special meeting. When asked about the School Perceptions Survey and how the raw data is received and unpacked, Sievers said this:
“It’s a healthy practice. We’re trying to drill down why the results are the way they are. So we understand the positive and try to understand from the data—target improvements. None of this is bad. It’s all good data. The reality is, most people are looking for where people are “unhappy,” and if we simply did that, then we risk neglecting strength areas, and those can quickly decline. We need to protect and maintain strengths while targeting areas of improvement.”
