Hastings
The Hastings boys hockey team fell to #3 St. Thomas Academy Thursday evening 6-0 as heard live on AM1460 and FM97.7 KDWA. The Cadets struck first after a stellar scoring play from Cadets star Maverick Mckinnon, but the Raiders held strong to only trail 1-0 after the first period. Despite a second goal by the Cadets, the Raiders played physical defense and limited scoring opportunities to keep it a close contest, before the floodgates opened late and the Cadets pushed across two more in the second and two more in the third to get to the final tally.
Head coach Matt Klein said the guys kept fighting the entire contest and made nothing easy for the Cadets.
“It was a great effort on our end. Two words for us were Keep Going. We put ourselves in this hockey game. They got one that bounced off the back glass, and we had one disallowed that was in the back of the net. A 3-1 hockey game after two feels a lot different than 4-0. That’s what we felt like we earned, just didn’t happen tonight. This is going to be an effort we are going to build on moving forward. We have nine games left, and I hope we can get to nine.”
Coach Klein also said they want to play the same way tomorrow against Mahtomedi.
Hastings is now 11-10-1 on the season, and will play on the road tomorrow against Mahtomedi.
