Transportation Service for Veterans to the VA.

On February 3rd there was a Dakota County Board of Commissioners meeting. All consent agenda items were approved. In a closer look at one of the consent agenda items, under veteran services, there was a resolution to enter into a Joint Powers Agreement with the State of Minnesota, acting through its Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), for transportation services to Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Minneapolis.

In the request for board action, it states that “the execution of the Joint Powers Agreement (JPA) allows Dakota County veterans who are not residents of the Hastings Veterans Home to utilize the van transportation service, free of charge.” This preexisting agreement will now extend through November 27, 2030.

KDWA connected with Lisa Thomas, County Veterans Service Officer, for more information.

Thomas offers more insight on the service and the phone number for veterans to call to schedule a ride to the VA.
